The Cayman Islands men’s field hockey team will compete in the Tampa Cup in Florida on 24 and 25 October, taking on teams from across the United States and Caribbean.
Led by captain Liam Conradie, the squad has been preparing through regular training sessions and local competition ahead of the 7v7 tournament.

Conradie said international matches helped players develop their skills and strengthen the team.
“Every opportunity to compete overseas helps us grow as players and as a team,” he said in a Cayman Islands Hockey Federation press release.
“Playing against different teams and styles of hockey accelerates development, strengthens team chemistry and gives us valuable experience that we can bring back to the local game.”
Team manager Nick Hemus said the squad was looking forward to testing itself against experienced opposition.
“We know we’ll face quality opposition, but the players have worked hard and are excited for the challenge,” he said.
“Our focus is on competing well, making smart decisions on the field and continuing to improve as a team throughout the tournament.”
The team includes a mix of experienced players and emerging talent, with several expected to take on greater responsibilities as the programme develops.
Club vice-president Charlie Jackson said overseas tournaments are important to the long-term growth of hockey in Cayman, giving players the chance to experience different styles of play and perform under pressure.
The Cayman Islands Hockey Federation supports the development of the sport locally and provides opportunities for players to compete and represent the islands internationally.
