Premier to deliver Chicago keynote as part of global financial services tour

Extending his overseas outreach for the Cayman Islands’ financial services sector, Premier André Ebanks is set to address industry stakeholders later this month in Chicago.

He will present the keynote address for a Cayman Finance breakfast and panel discussion at KPMG Chicago on 11 June.

The event will bring together US industry leaders and Cayman representatives to discuss the future of offshore finance.

His keynote will be followed by a panel discussion on investment funds, reinsurance and tokenisation from Cayman’s perspective, featuring experts from Highvern, Walkers and KPMG.

The topics build on a range of timely regulatory and legislative topics for Cayman, including a body of recently approved amendments regulating tokenisation and tokenised investment funds.

Ebanks, serving as Cayman’s financial services minister, has also identified reinsurance as a strategic area of growth for Cayman “based on our proximity to the US… and the convergence between that and private equity”.

“Since we’re a large hub for private equity investment funds here, the synergy between private equity and reinsurance, and all the other factors that surround Cayman financial services, makes us a natural fit,” Ebanks recently told Cayman Independent.

The Chicago event extends more than a month of international engagements in key financial centres, starting with meetings in Japan, China and Hong Kong.

As of the end of 2025, Cayman was the third largest recipient of China’s foreign investment, representing US$145.1 billion of its external portfolio.

For Japan, Cayman was the leading destination for outward investment, accounting for 62.4% of its overseas investment fund holdings at the end of 2024.

After his tour of Asia, Ebanks began engagements in the Americas, including trips to Trinidad and New York.

In Trinidad, he attended the 62nd Caribbean Financial Action Task Force Plenary, underscoring the importance of preparing for Cayman’s next round of FATF assessments at the end of 2027.

Following a Cayman Finance roundtable with industry representatives in New York, Ebanks wrote on social media: “Gaining insights on current trends and market conditions is so vital right now.”
