It’s time to meet our final Miss Universe Cayman Islands contestant, 19-year-old Gileen MacDonald from George Town.
Here, she tells Cayman Independent about being the best version of herself, how she approaches nerves and the clarity and strength she gets from the ocean.
What inspired you to enter this year’s Miss Universe Cayman Islands?
I entered this year’s competition because I believe in using creativity as a force for social change.
As a Caymanian entrepreneur and artist, I want to represent a new generation of women who are bold, multifaceted and deeply rooted in purpose.
This platform allows me to show others – especially young girls – that your story, no matter how unconventional, is powerful when shared with confidence and heart.
What are you looking forward to most in the competition?
I’m most looking forward to the transformation. Not just physically or publicly – but mentally, emotionally and spiritually.
Growth doesn’t happen in still waters. It comes from challenge, connection and vulnerability.
This journey is about becoming the best version of myself, while inspiring others to realise they can do the same.

Is there anything you’re nervous about?
Stepping into the unknown always brings a little fear – but fear is a sign you’re doing something brave. I choose to see nerves as a reminder that this moment matters.
And if it matters, it’s worth giving my all. I’ve learned that the things that once scared me, later became my biggest breakthroughs.
What would winning the competition mean to you?
Winning would be more than a crown – it would be confirmation that purpose, passion and perseverance truly make a difference.
It would give me a louder voice to champion creative empowerment through my foundation, and open doors for Caymanians with big dreams to see that their talent belongs on a global stage.
It would also mean honouring my roots, while redefining what representation looks like for the next generation.
What do you do when you’re not competing in Miss Universe Cayman Islands?
When I’m not competing, I study law and pour my heart into everything I do – from DJing to building my businesses, KY Records and the Cayman Music and Arts Foundation.
I’m passionate about sports, I volunteer regularly, and I serve as a Girl Guiding leader, proudly known as ‘Lioness’.
I love to live fully and independently – whether I’m planning events, mentoring young creatives, or simply embracing quiet moments by myself.
I’m an extrovert, but I find deep peace in my own company. I believe life is meant to be experienced with purpose, joy and depth – and I strive to make every moment count.
What do you love about living on the Cayman Islands?
I love the rhythm of island life – the ocean breeze, the rich culture, and the warmth of our people. I recently joined the Shotgun Racing Team for jet ski racing, and I also DJ on boat charters through KY Records.
The sea is where I come alive. It grounds me and gives me a sense of freedom that’s hard to put into words.
That’s why it’s so important to care for our environment. We are blessed to live in paradise, and it’s our shared responsibility to protect it – for our generation and those to come.
Do you have a favourite spot on the islands and why?
My favourite place is anywhere on the water – jet skiing, sailing or DJing under the sun.
The sea reminds me that life is fluid and powerful, and that we can all ride the waves with grace. Being on the ocean gives me clarity, strength and perspective.
It’s where I feel most aligned with who I am, and most inspired to help others discover their light too.

The final is this Saturday
We’re now just days away from the final, where MacDonald will join three other contestants, Tiona Miller, Genesis Ryan and Tahiti Moorea Seymour.
Although the reigning queen will be selected by the judges, anyone can have their say in who wins the People’s Choice Award.
Votes can be cast via the websites of one of four radio sponsors: Z99.ky, GoldCayman.ky, IslandFM.ky, or Rooster101.ky
The winner will be crowned at The Westin Grand Cayman on Saturday, 9 August. More information can be found at misscaymanislandsuniverse.com
