Camana Bay’s 60 Nexus Way, the first 10-storey commercial building in the Cayman Islands, has received a LEED Silver sustainability certification.
LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design), developed by the US Green Building Council (USGBC), is the most widely used green building rating system in the world.
Projects earn LEED certification points by adhering to prerequisites and credits across nine measurements for building excellence – from integrative design to human health to material use.
In a press release on 23 March, Peter Templeton, USGBC president and chief executive officer, said LEED certification is the ultimate recognition of green building leadership.
“The success of LEED is due to the partnership and support of those committed to advancing green building and sustainability,” he said.
“Each new LEED certification brings us one step closer to revolutionising the spaces where we live, learn, work and play.”
60 Nexus Way features over 200,000 square feet of office space combining industrial design and island touches.
Chris Lennon, Dart’s senior vice president commercial, said: “Sustainability is at the forefront of our design, cost and construction decisions.
“These include decisions around targeted water savings, energy efficiency, use of sustainable building materials, waste reduction and enhancing the quality of the indoor environment for our customers.
“Achieving this certification is an important acknowledgement of our various teams’ work.”
The building is home to high-profile tenants, including Appleby, global professional services firms Deloitte and JTC, as well as The London and Amsterdam Trust Company Ltd.
“Our facilities are thoughtfully-designed to do more than house businesses – they help them flourish,” said Kristy Rivers, Dart’s senior vice president of sales and leasing.
“Developments like 60 Nexus Way and our broader Camana Bay portfolio attract and support global businesses, strengthening the Cayman Islands’ reputation as a world-class hub for international businesses.”
Camana Bay is a 685-acre master-planned town, centrally located in the heart of Grand Cayman.
60 Nexus Way, which also won Best Office Development in the Americas at the 2023 International Property Awards, is the third Camana Bay property to be LEED-certified.
One Nexus Way and 18 Forum Lane both have LEED Gold Certification.
Meanwhile, under construction is 90 Nexus Way, which is nearing completion and being built to meet LEED certification standards.
