New data from the Elections Office reveals fascinating trends about Cayman Islands’ voters, showing a clear shift toward an older electorate along with a consistently higher number of women voters.
Over the past eight years, the average age of voters in Cayman has risen from 50 years in 2017 to 53 years in 2025. This aging voter population points toward potential shifts in political priorities, especially around key issues such as healthcare, pensions, and services aimed at seniors.
The latest data also highlights a significant increase in senior voters aged 75 or older. Between 2021 and 2025, the number of older male voters increased from 934 to 1,135, while older female voters rose from 1,164 to 1,296. Cayman Brac East remains the district with the oldest average voters at 58 years, up from 56 in 2017. By comparison, Newlands remains the youngest district, though its average voter age has also risen slightly from 45 to 49 years during the same period.
Notably, Newlands has seen the biggest jump in voter registrations—up by 18.4%, indicating active political engagement and population growth in this district.
Women continue to dominate the voter rolls, representing about 54% of all registered voters as of January 2025. This trend has held steady across recent election cycles, emphasising the crucial role women play in shaping Cayman’s political future.
Given these demographic shifts, candidates in the upcoming elections might increasingly focus their campaigns on issues that resonate with older voters, while also balancing these priorities with initiatives aimed at encouraging younger voter participation. With the electorate aging, efforts to involve young people in politics become even more important, ensuring that the interests of all age groups are represented effectively.
Overall, these demographic trends offer important insights for voters, candidates and policymakers alike as Cayman prepares for its next general elections.
