A total of 51 works, chosen from 120 submissions spanning 15 schools, are now on display at the Mind’s Eye Centre.

The exhibition is presented by the Cayman National Cultural Foundation (CNCF) and the Department of Education Services, and co-curated by John Reno Jackson and Rory Marchant-Kelly.

Jackson said in a press release on 20 March: “Under the Same Sun was curated as a shared space for multiple forms of expression, where each work not only stands on its own but also interacts in dialogue with others across ages, materials and perspectives.

“Each artist brings a unique background, yet all are exploring what it means to see and be seen.”

The exhibition forms part of the National Children’s Festival of the Arts, a cultural tradition that has nurtured and celebrated young artists for over 40 years.

Returning after a two-year hiatus, this year’s collection explores themes of community, identity, observation and the natural environment.

The display also pays tribute to the art tradition represented in the permanent collection at the Mind’s Eye Centre, including the work of Caymanian folk painter Gladwyn ‘Miss Lassie’ Bush, whose former home sits next to the centre.

CNCF director Rosie Twohey described the exhibition as a testament to both student talent and the importance of providing platforms for young creatives.

She noted that the show is “dynamic and thoughtfully curated,” adding that it offers a glimpse into the future of Cayman’s artistic landscape.

Tammy Hopkins, deputy director at the Department of Education Services, emphasised the value of the ongoing partnership with CNCF and the opportunities it creates for students.

“The creativity demonstrated by our students is inspiring, and we remain committed to expanding opportunities in the arts and strengthening this collaboration in the years ahead,” she said.

The exhibition is open to the public Monday to Friday, 10am to 2pm at the Mind’s Eye Centre, South Sound (behind Miss Lassie’s House).
