The Cayman Islands has officially launched the ‘Week of the Young Child’, running from 10 to 18 May, with a nationwide call to recognise and invest in early childhood education.
Rolston Anglin, Minister of Education, Finance and Economic Development, marked the occasion on his first day in office following his official appointment.
“What a way to kick off this term as your minister of education. Early childhood education remains the number one investment we can make,” he said.
Anglin joined the Early Childhood Care and Education (ECCE) Unit and members of the ECCE Association to formally launch the week and highlight its importance.
He explained that the week honours the organisations working to improve early learning opportunities, including early literacy and social and emotional programmes.
These form the foundation of learning for children in the Cayman Islands, the education minister said.
He emphasised the critical role educators play in shaping young lives, saying they deserve thanks and recognition.
“Public policies that support early learning for all young children are crucial to our children’s futures,” he added.
The week-long celebration is aimed at highlighting the importance of early childhood care and education, encouraging family engagement, strengthening relationships and supporting advocacy for educators in the sector.
The minister also thanked the ECCE Unit and the ECCE Association for coordinating the week’s activities, which will feature initiatives across the islands.
