Rolston Anglin, candidate for West Bay North, has pushed back against allegations made by rival Jordan Rivers, branding them “lie-riddled” and “defamatory.”
In a statement issued after the Easter weekend, Anglin criticised Rivers for choosing Good Friday to launch a personal attack on social media. “On Good Friday of all days, the most holy of holidays, my opponent Jordan Rivers chose that day to launch a lie-riddled personal attack on me,” Anglin said.
Rivers had accused Anglin of urging Caymanian families to sell land to the government, which he claimed was then transferred under the 2011 National Roads Authority (NRA) deal. Anglin firmly denied this.
“Let me set the record straight, I never approached any family in the district of West Bay to sell their land to the government,” he said. “The NRA agreement of 2011 is a public document for all of us to see. No such provisions are in the NRA agreement, yet another lie,” he said, in response to claims made by Rivers that after the families sold their land to the government, the government then put those lands in an NRA deal.
Anglin suggested the accusations were part of a desperate political strategy. “This is a last-minute attempt, 12 days before the election, to try and besmirch my reputation and derail my campaign,” he said.
He also criticised Rivers for attacking his academic credentials. “The fancy qualifications and accolades are as worthless as the paper on which they are printed,” Anglin quoted Rivers as saying. “Is he mocking my qualifications simply because he doesn’t have any?”
Anglin defended his proposal to use the Environmental Protection Fund to purchase oceanfront land in Barkers, calling it “the only sensible way for us to preserve Barkers for future generations.”
He concluded: “I am here, I am ready to work, I am ready to defend Barkers, I am ready to defend you, I am ready to be your representative.”
