Five young Caymanian swimmers have arrived in Paraguay for the Junior Pan American Games.
The swimmers will be battling it out against fellow junior swimmers from across the Americas at the tournament, which runs in Asunción from 9 to 23 August.
The Cayman team is made up of James Allison, 20, Kyra Rabess, 20, Harper Barrowman, 19, Lila Higgo, 18, and Riley Watson, 15.
Attending coach Darren Mew, who is also head coach of Seven Mile Swimmers, said: “It’s going to be an amazing experience for the swimmers to be in a ‘games’ environment with 4,000 other athletes and will prepare them for bigger senior competitions in the future.
“It’s going to be a fast meet, and it will be interesting to see how our swimmers stack up against some of the best junior swimmers in the Americas.”
The Junior Pan American Games is exclusively for those under 21 and sees athletes from 41 countries compete across 42 disciplines, from aquatics and athletics to sailing and triathlon.
The public can watch the Cayman swimmers in action at the Panam Sports Channel.
