Women from Cayman’s business and professional community championed gender equality and raised money for ongoing initiatives at an annual high tea event.
The Business and Professional Women’s Association of the Cayman (BPW Cayman) hosted the special soiree at the Union Bar and Grill at Camana Bay on 7 June.
The sold-out event included a tea service with bubbles, premium teas, scones, pastries, and finger sandwiches, a fashion show by Ooh La La Boutique, raffles and a silent auction.
There was also a pinning ceremony for Governor Jane Owen, welcoming her as a patron of the organisation.
More than CI$5,000 was raised to support BPW Cayman’s ongoing initiatives, according to a press release on 11 June.
These include the Corrine Thompson Memorial Scholarship Fund, the School Uniform Drive, the Silent Witness March, International Federation Advocacy Campaigns, and Women’s Prison Programme.
During an opening speech, BPW Cayman president Andrea Williams reflected on the organisation’s continued impact and its plans to commemorate 50 years of service and forward-thinking action in 2026.
“Next year marks a golden milestone for BPW Cayman and today is a reminder of the strength and legacy we continue to build together,” she told those gathered.
A BPW Cayman spokesperson said guests left the event with a renewed sense of commitment to empowering women and advancing equality across the Cayman Islands.
BPW Cayman is a network of business and professional women from over 95 countries with consultative status at the United Nations Economic and Social Council and participatory status with the Council of Europe.
The organisation lobbied for the formation of the Commission on the Status of Women and has supported many women’s issues.
