Viral online search brings Super Bowl flag bearer to Cayman

A viral social media campaign has successfully tracked down the dancer who carried the Cayman Islands flag during the Super Bowl halftime show in Los Angeles, California.

The performer, identified as a dance instructor named Jimmy, is scheduled to arrive in Grand Cayman on 1 March for a week-long visit.

The movement to bring Jimmy to Cayman was spearheaded by Phil Nabeel, founder of Stache, and Dane-Carl Ramoon, morning show host for Magic 91.5fm.

They said his appearance during Bad Bunny’s halftime performance, where he paraded the national flag alongside 50 other regional banners, sparked pride across the islands.

“For once, Cayman was being recognised on a global stage for culture and representation. Not headlines. Not stereotypes. Just pride,” Nabeel told Cayman Independent.

The pair spent hours porting videos and scouring social media to identify the dancer after seeing other Caribbean nations celebrate their own flag bearers.

The initiative gained over 300,000 views on Instagram and attracted support from more than 60 local businesses.

“We have received messages from Singapore, Texas, Japan, Los Angeles and Germany from people asking about flights and accommodations recommendations to Cayman,” Nabeel added.

“What began as a simple act of pride is now organically promoting our island worldwide.”

The search ended on 14 February when Ramoon’s daughter located Jimmy on Instagram.

“Dane and I connected with Jimmy, the flag bearer, and learned he is a dance instructor who was deeply grateful for the opportunity to represent Cayman,” Nabeel said.

Cayman Airways is providing Jimmy’s flights from Los Angeles, while Grand Cayman Marriott Resort and Hotel Indigo Grand Cayman are sponsoring his accommodation.

During his stay until 7 March, Jimmy will participate in a travel documentary produced by Nabeel and Ramoon to showcase the islands.

“Dane brings his deep Caymanian roots and heart for community. I bring the storytelling and marketing lens,” Nabeel said.

“Together, we are turning Jimmy’s visit into a full travel documentary that will showcase Cayman through Caymanian eyes.”

The documentary of Jimmy’s visit is expected to be released on Nabeel’s YouTube channel here.
