A programme of summer events for young people up to the age of 30 is promoting the five Cs of mental health: connection, compassion, coping, community and care.
The initiative, called Summer Cs Campaign, has been organised by the Cayman Islands Government in partnership with the Alex Panton Foundation and other public and private organisations.
Having kicked off on 1 July and running until 30 August, it features a variety of activities and meet-ups for different age groups, including a children’s summer camp, chair yoga, Pilates and painting and a peer support group for young adults on Zoom.
It follows Cayman’s very first youth ‘non summit’ last year, a multi-agency organised event where 234 young people aged seven to 12 came together to connect, engage in important conversations, and share their perspectives on issues that impact their lives and wider community.
The Ministry of Health, Environment and Sustainability, one of the partners of the event, posted on social media this week saying: “We learned a lot from the participants, including the fact that there isn’t enough face-to-face interaction in Cayman for young people.
“That’s why we are happy to support the Summer Cs Campaign!”
As well offering events, the campaign is also raising awareness of the mental health resources and services available to children, youth and parents.
Details of events will be made available throughout the summer, but to see what’s happening in July click here and for support services click here.
