Premier André Ebanks is visiting Trinidad and New York this week for a series of meetings focused on financial regulation and the Cayman Islands’ financial services industry.
He flew to the Port of Spain, Trinidad, on Monday, 25 May to participate in engagements linked to the 62nd Caribbean Financial Action Task Force plenary and working group meetings.
Regional and international representatives are expected to discuss anti-money laundering measures, counter-terrorist financing, international cooperation and emerging financial crime trends.
The premier, who is also the minister for financial services and commerce, will be accompanied by a technical delegation including officials from the Office for Strategic Action on Illicit Finance.
He will then travel to New York from 27 May for meetings with US industry stakeholders alongside representatives from the Cayman Islands Monetary Authority and Cayman Finance.
The New York visit will include a Cayman Finance roundtable with industry representatives and meetings with major professional services firms, the government said in a press release.
Throughout the trip, Ebanks will be accompanied by Cabinet Office international affairs analyst Sean Whewell. He is due to fly back to the Cayman Islands on Saturday, 30 May.
During the premier’s absence, Gary Rutty will serve as acting premier, Isaac Rankine as acting deputy premier and Wayne Panton as acting minister for financial services and commerce.
The trip follows a nine-day east Asia engagement tour earlier this month aimed at strengthening Cayman’s ties with the region’s financial services sector.
The premier visited Hong Kong, Shanghai and Tokyo to reinforce business relationships, provide updates on Cayman’s regulatory and financial services framework, and establish new connections in key Asian markets.
