The Cayman Islands Chamber of Commerce officially launched the Leadership Cayman Class of 2026 at an orientation dinner.
The event, held on 14 January at Grand Old House, marked the first gathering of the 25 professionals selected for the annual leadership development programme.
Established by the chamber in 2009, Leadership Cayman is a six-month immersive initiative for emerging leaders designed to deepen participants’ understanding of the islands’ social, economic and political landscape.
It offers bi-weekly seminars, site visits and direct engagement with senior leaders across both the public and private sectors.
Opening the evening, chamber president-elect Cristina Spratt – a Leadership Cayman alumna and former planning committee chair – welcomed the cohort and highlighted the strength found in its diversity, according to a chamber press release.
She noted that participants represent a wide cross-section of Cayman’s professional community, including finance, law, government, entrepreneurship and the non-profit sector.

Spratt encouraged participants to fully embrace the experience, adding that Leadership Cayman often fosters lasting professional and personal connections between individuals who may not otherwise cross paths.
Melissa Whorms, chairperson of the 2026 planning committee and a graduate of Class of 2021, also addressed the group, offering a preview of the journey ahead.
She encouraged participants to prepare for deep discussions, moments of challenge and unexpected personal growth.
A light-hearted icebreaker helped participants get to know one another, as each introduced themselves and shared what Marvel-style superpower they wished they had.
With no repeats allowed, participants were forced to get more inventive as the evening went on.
Several alumni also shared reflections, describing Leadership Cayman as a programme that broadens perspectives, challenges assumptions and strengthens participants’ understanding of community leadership.
As dinner concluded, participants mingled, connecting with each other and the alumni.
Chamber programmes coordinator Jada Ramoon said in the press release: “I was very happy with the turn out for the orientation dinner.
“This year’s group seems very enthusiastic to begin the six-month process, and they have started to get along so well already.
“I have high hopes for the class, and I cannot wait to see what this group will accomplish throughout the programme.”
