The MAX60 Caribbean tournament launched its second season this week at Jimmy Powell Oval in George Town, bringing high-octane T10 cricket action to the Cayman Islands for a week-long competition featuring international stars and local talent.
The tournament runs from 16 to 24 July, with defending champions Caribbean Tigers facing challenges from six other teams including Vegas Vikings, Boca Raton Trailblazers, Grand Cayman Falcons, Miami Blaze, Florida Lions, and Cayman Bay Stingrays.
The MAX60 format uses T10 cricket, where each team bats for a maximum of 10 overs (60 balls), condensing matches into a 90-minute timeframe designed for fast-paced entertainment.
The games feature three powerplay overs, during which only two fielders are allowed outside the 30-yard circle.
This year’s format follows a single round-robin structure, with each of the seven teams playing eight matches.
The top team on the points table will secure a direct spot in the final, while teams finishing second and third will compete in a qualifier match for the remaining championship spot.
Caribbean Tigers won the inaugural season final, and the team opened their title defence on 16 July against Grand Cayman Falcons at 9am, followed by three additional matches throughout the day.
Star-studded lineup
The tournament features prominent international cricketers across all teams.
Notable participants include David Warner, Alex Hales, Shakib Al Hasan, Mohammad Nabi, and Dawid Malan, alongside emerging local talent from the Caribbean region.
The 2024 inaugural season featured established names including Sunil Narine, Sikandar Raza, Dwayne Bravo, Shoaib Malik, and Robin Uthappa, demonstrating the tournament’s ability to attract high-profile international talent.
The tournament is broadcast on Star Sports 1 HD in India, with live streaming available on the FanCode app and website. Flow Sports provides streaming in the Caribbean region.
The competition runs through 24 July, with 31 matches scheduled including playoff rounds and an exhibition match before the final.
The tournament is organised by the Cayman Islands Cricket Association (CICA), marking the second consecutive year the islands host this format of international cricket competition.
