Maples and Calder, the law firm of the Maples Group, has advised global aviation asset management firm Altavair LP on a US$667 million aircraft lease asset-backed securities transaction.
The deal, known as ALTDE 2026-1, marks Altavair’s second aircraft lease ABS issuance and involved the financing of a portfolio of 23 commercial aviation assets, including passenger aircraft, engines and freighters leased to airlines and operators across 13 jurisdictions.
The transaction included the issuance of Class A and B Notes, which are listed on the Cayman Islands Stock Exchange. The Maples Group acted as listing agent for the offering.
Lawyers from the firm’s Cayman Islands and Irish offices advised on the Cayman and Irish legal aspects of the transaction.
The Cayman team included Jonathon Meloy, head of finance in Cayman, partner Anthony Philp and associate Sorcha O’Keefe.
The aircraft portfolio includes eight narrowbody aircraft, eight widebody aircraft, five engines and two freighters leased to 16 different lessees globally.
Mary O’Neill, a partner in the firm’s Irish office, said the transaction reflected Altavair’s continued expansion in the aviation leasing market.
“We congratulate Altavair on the successful completion of its second aircraft ABS transaction,” O’Neill said in a press release.
“This issuance underscores Altavair’s sustained growth in managing leased commercial aircraft and we are delighted to have supported this important milestone by drawing on the depth and cross-border expertise of our multi-jurisdictional asset finance team.”
The Maples Group previously advised Altavair on its inaugural aircraft ABS transaction in 2025.
Aircraft asset-backed securities transactions involve bundling lease revenues from aircraft into investment products sold to institutional investors.
