The Cayman Islands Government is on the hunt for a supplier to build a poultry processing plant that fits inside a shipping container.
The Department of Agriculture put out the tender on 6 May which detailed a unit destined for its site at Block 32B, Parcel 270 in Grand Cayman, off Agricola Drive in Lower Valley.
Vendors must squeeze the whole operation into a 40-foot shipping container or a custom trailer of similar size. Throughput is set at up to 800 birds a day.
The build calls for 304 stainless steel construction and 240V, three-phase, 60Hz power, with kit carrying ANSI/UL 2128 certification or a proven equivalent.
The shopping list runs the full length of a poultry line. It covers kill cones and a bleed system, a thermostatic-controlled scalding tank running at 52-61°C, and mechanical plucking that strips more than 99% of feathers.
Also on the brief are an evisceration trough with conveyor, carcass washing stations and automatic feet and head cutters.
The package rounds out with a chiller room, a blast freezer and PLC-controlled utility systems.
The government wants a “plug-and-play” delivery, with minimal on-site work needed once the container arrives.
Authorities will hook up three-phase power, high-pressure potable water and wastewater treatment connections at the site.
Whoever wins the contract must meet USDA/FSIS food hygiene rules. The deal also covers on-site installation support, maintenance instructions aligned with NRTL/UL standards, and a spare parts pipeline.
The timetable leaves little room to dawdle. Vendor questions close on 20 May, answers come back by 24 May, and bids must be in by 5pm EST on 10 June.
Contract award and signing are slated for July, and bids must stay on the table for 120 days after closing.
Submissions run through the Bonfire portal at cayman.bonfirehub.com, with Clive Baker listed as the procurement contact.
