Farmers from East End and North Side will come together on Saturday, 15 August for their first joint market, offering locally grown produce, fresh meat and plants.
The market will run from 7am to 5pm at the East End Heritage Field, across from the East End post office, with 11 farmers and 11 food vendors expected to participate.
East End MP Isaac Rankine described the market as a family-friendly, community gathering centred around local farmers, artisans and food vendors.
“As everyone knows, East End and North Side still remain two of the most diligent farm districts in this country,” Rankine told Radio Cayman on Friday, 7 August.
“This local farmers’ market was created for the hardworking and obviously amazing farmers that contribute to our local market consumption.”
Entry is free and every visitor will receive a raffle ticket at the gate for prizes donated by local businesses, including a weekend getaway, restaurant vouchers and fuel vouchers.
The market will also offer free school uniform alterations, including hemming, repairs and button replacements, provided by Friends and Needles, from 9:30am to 4pm, for students from East End Primary, North Side Primary and Clifton Hunter High School.
Parents have been asked to bring their children for fittings, and to ensure uniforms are clean and placed in a labelled bag.
The East End Heritage Field Dock will be closed on the day of the market, to accommodate the activities.
The event, which will also feature live music, is being sponsored by the Ministry of Youth, Sports, Culture and Heritage, with support from North Side MP Jay Ebanks.
Organisers hope to turn the market into a regular fixture that alternates between the two eastern districts.
