The 2026 Deputy Governor’s 5K Challenge has raised a record CI$120,000 for charity, with proceeds set to support three organisations across the Cayman Islands.
Deputy Governor Franz Manderson announced the fundraising total during a volunteer and sponsor recognition reception held at the National Gallery of the Cayman Islands on 2 July.
Funds raised from this year’s event will benefit Special Olympics Cayman Islands as athletes prepare for the 2027 World Games, Cayman hospice Jasmine, and the Breast Cancer Foundation, which supports individuals and families affected by breast cancer.
“The continued support for the DG’s 5K Challenge reflects the strength of our community and its commitment to helping others,” Manderson said in a press release on 3 July.
“I extend my sincere appreciation to everyone who participated and contributed to making this year’s event a success.”
A record 3,290 people registered for the 2026 challenge across all three Cayman Islands.
Nearly 2,000 participants completed the Grand Cayman race on 29 March, with Manderson taking part in what marked his final appearance in the event as deputy governor.
The dates for the 2027 Deputy Governor’s 5K Challenge have also been announced.
The event will take place in Cayman Brac on 28 February, Little Cayman on 7 March and Grand Cayman on 14 March.
As well as raising funds for local non-profit organisations, the event aims to promote health, fitness and community participation.
