CIIPA announces three new appointments to senior leadership team

The Cayman Islands Institute of Professional Accountants (CIIPA) has strengthened its leadership and regulatory functions with three new appointments.

Alfred Tweneboah has been appointed deputy chief executive officer, Samantha Bartlett as associate director, regulatory licensing and compliance, and Tishan Connolly as compliance officer, regulatory licensing and compliance.

All three roles took effect on 1 July and were officially announced in a press release on October 6 October.

Tweneboah will retain his existing role as director of regulatory affairs and policy alongside his new responsibilities as deputy CEO.

He joined CIIPA in April 2024 and oversees regulatory policy, quality assurance, AML/CFT supervision and professional standards.

As deputy CEO, he will deputise for chief executive Sheree Ebanks, contribute to organisational strategy and management, and represent CIIPA with members, government, regulators and international partners.

Bartlett has worked at CIIPA for more than seven years, having joined the organisation in September 2018.

In her new role, she will lead the regulatory licensing and compliance team, overseeing membership, licensing and firm registration, as well as compliance monitoring and quality assurance.

Connolly will support the team’s regulatory licensing and compliance functions, including membership, practitioner licensing and firm registration applications and renewals, due diligence and compliance checks, quality assurance, continuing professional development monitoring and complaints handling.

Both Bartlett and Connolly are Caymanian, with CIIPA saying their appointments reflect its commitment to developing local talent and strengthening its regulatory capacity from within.

The regulatory licensing and compliance team works alongside CIIPA’s anti money laundering compliance team as part of the institute’s wider regulatory function.

CIIPA chief executive Sheree Ebanks said the appointments will strengthen the organisation’s ability to serve its members and meet its responsibilities as a self-regulatory body.

“These appointments represent an important step in the continued development of CIIPA and strengthen our capacity to serve our members, regulate the profession and meet our responsibilities as a self-regulatory body,” she said in the press release.

Ebanks said she was particularly pleased to see Bartlett and Connolly progress within the organisation, while recognising Tweneboah’s expanded role.

The appointments come as CIIPA continues to develop its regulatory framework and strengthen its AML/CFT/CPF supervisory functions, as well as its engagement with government, regulators and international partners.

“The strength of an organisation depends on the people behind it,” Ebanks said.

“These appointments reflect the talent and commitment within CIIPA and our investment in building the expertise and leadership we need for the future.

“We are proud to see Caymanian professionals progressing within the organisation and taking on increased responsibility.”
