Businesses are being urged to register their food-handling employees for mandatory food hygiene training as the Department of Environmental Health (DEH) resumes its sessions following the summer break.
Registration is now open for 11 food handler training sessions scheduled between September and November.
The sessions will take place from 9am to 3pm on the top floor of the Red Cross Building in George Town on 21 and 28 September; 5, 12, 19 and 26 October; and 2, 9, 16, 23 and 30 November.
The training is a mandatory DEH requirement for anyone working in food preparation, handling or service.
It provides participants with knowledge intended to help prevent food-borne illnesses caused by pathogens and other contaminants.
In a press release, the department encouraged food business owners and operators to sign up all non-certified employees who handle food for one of the autumn sessions.
The certification is valid for three years and must be renewed when it expires.
The registration fee is CI$15 per person, covering training materials and other fees. Payment must be made at DEH headquarters at 580 North Sound Road between 8:30am and 4pm, Monday to Friday.
The training is part of DEH’s ongoing efforts to safeguard public health and strengthen food safety standards across the Cayman Islands.
Businesses looking to register employees can contact DEH on (345) 949-6696 or email dehcustomerservice@gov.ky for more information.
Further information is also available through the DEH website and its Facebook page.
