A taste of Brazil’s vibrant carnival culture is coming to Grand Cayman this weekend as Bonny Moon Beach Club hosts Ressaca de Carnaval
The celebration takes place on Saturday, 14 March, from 4pm to midnight, and brings together live samba, Brazilian DJs and traditional cuisine at the popular bar on Seven Mile Beach.
While carnaval may have officially ended in Brazil, the idea behind Ressaca de Carnaval – which translates loosely to ‘carnaval hangover’ – is that the festive energy does not have to stop.
Organisers say the event is designed to capture the joyful spirit of Brazilian celebrations, combining music, dancing and food in a relaxed beach setting.

“At Bonny Moon we’re always looking for ways to bring people together through music, food and shared experiences,” Bonny Moon event organiser and marketing manager Larissa Iwazaki told Cayman Independent.
“Brazilian culture has this incredible energy – it’s joyful, spontaneous and deeply rooted in community – and that’s exactly the spirit we wanted to bring to the beach for this event.”
The event will feature live music from Sambaky, a samba group that has recently begun performing around the island.
The musicians play in the traditional roda de samba style, where performers sit in a circle playing and singing while the crowd gathers around to clap, sing and dance.
The group will perform from 4pm to 7pm with the Caribbean Sea as a backdrop leading into sunset.
Later in the evening, Brazilian DJ Tiago will take over from 7pm, spinning a mix of Brazilian funk, disco and house music.
Alongside the music, guests can expect a range of Brazilian food and drinks. Caipirinhas – Brazil’s national cocktail made with cachaça, lime and sugar – will be served alongside beer specials.
A live grill will feature picanha skewers, while traditional Brazilian snacks will include pão de queijo, coxinha, pastel de queijo, pastel de carne and brigadeiros.
“With live samba, great food and the ocean as the backdrop, it’s the kind of afternoon where strangers end up dancing together and everyone leaves feeling part of something,” Iwazaki said.
The event is free to attend and no booking is required.
