Corporate teams and community supporters in the Cayman Islands are invited to join an afternoon of golf, networking and friendly competition this spring.
The Beacon Farms Golf Invitational returns on 24 April at the North Sound Golf Club and registration is now open.
Entry for a team of four is CI$1,000, with participants in with a chance to win a car courtesy of hole-in-one sponsor TRAC Automotive.
They will also compete for prizes including best team, closest to the pin, and longest drive, before enjoying a buffet dinner, awards ceremony and raffle.
Sponsors for this year’s tournament include Tower Marketing, Rotary Central, REMAX, RF Bank and Trust, Aureum Re, CG Britcay, Maples and others.
The annual tournament is one of the non-profit farm’s most important fundraising events with proceeds supporting the farm’s operations.
Beacon Farms’ mission is to provide jobs in agriculture to Caymanians in recovery from substance abuse, a press release said on 3 March.
Its recovery programme helps them to learn new skills and develop a career in anything from planting and harvesting to manufacturing and equipment operation and maintenance.
Beacon Farms CEO Sandy Urquhart said farming offers great variety and the chance to work close to nature, far from the distractions and temptations of everyday life.
“Our employee retention rate was 92% last year, demonstrating the worth of providing a continuum of care.
“I am especially proud of our four farm supervisors – Sasha, Robert, Obed and Anthony – who have been with the farm more than five years and are the lynchpins our success.”
As a social enterprise, Beacon Farms’ business plan is to generate sufficient revenue to become financially sustainable operationally by the end of 2029.
It will do that through sales of compost and mulch from its expanded composting facility, manufactured products, fresh produce, farming services and ecotourism.
Until then, Beacon Farms relies on support from the community to deliver its recovery and agricultural programmes.
Anyone interested in registering for the fundraiser can do so here.
