Law firm Baker and Partners has appointed Meenaa Azmayesh as a senior litigator in its Cayman Islands office.
Azmayesh specialises in complex cross-border commercial and civil disputes, fraud and asset recovery, and insolvency litigation.
She joins Baker and Partners after more than seven years with Walkers, where she was a senior member of the dispute teams in its Hong Kong and British Virgin Islands offices.
In the BVI, she handled complex commercial litigation and contentious insolvency matters before the BVI Commercial Court and Eastern Caribbean Supreme Court.
In Hong Kong, her work included shareholder disputes, fraud and asset tracing claims, restructuring litigation and cross-border enforcement matters, with cases spanning Asia, the Caribbean and Europe.
Azmayesh regularly advises financial institutions, insolvency practitioners, shareholders and high-net-worth individuals on high-value, cross-border disputes.
Her experience also includes jurisdictional challenges, urgent interim relief and disclosure applications across a range of sectors.
Robert Jones, managing director of Baker and Partners (Cayman) Limited, said Azmayesh’s international experience will support the firm’s growth in Cayman and the wider region.
“We are pleased to announce the appointment of Meenaa to our team,” he said in a press release on 27 July.
“Meenaa’s outstanding credentials and international experience are a tremendous asset as we continue to grow our presence and the Baker and Partners name in the Cayman Islands, across the Caribbean and beyond.”
Azmayesh said she was excited to join the firm and move to Cayman.
“I really value the independence that Baker and Partners’ conflict-free model allows, and the calibre of work in the first week alone has been outstanding,” she said, adding: “The team functions at a very high level.”
Her appointment follows the arrival of Natascha Steiner-Smith as a partner in the firm’s Cayman office earlier this year.
