Oxbridge Re takes tokenised reinsurance business to Monte Carlo

Cayman Islands reinsurer Oxbridge Re is taking its tokenised reinsurance business to one of the industry’s biggest annual gatherings.

Along with its subsidiary SurancePlus, representatives will attend the Rendez-Vous de Septembre in Monte Carlo from 5 to 9 September.

Executives are expected to meet insurers, reinsurers, brokers, institutional investors and other market participants ahead of the next reinsurance renewal season.

The event follows a year in which SurancePlus completed five tokenised reinsurance securities offerings, according to a press release on 31 August.

Two of the offerings were tied to Oxbridge’s traditional reinsurance activities, while three gave qualified investors contractual exposure to designated reinsurance risks associated with HCI Group, a Florida-based homeowners insurance provider, and its reinsurance subsidiary, Fortex Reinsurance SPC Ltd.

The five offerings were HCI Re 2026 Series A, which targeted an annual return of 224%; HCI Re 2026 Series B, targeting 122%; HCI Re 2026 Series C, targeting 17%; T42-2027, targeting 32%; and T20-2027, targeting 26%.

The targeted returns assume no underwriting losses and are not guarantees of future performance.

SurancePlus uses blockchain-based digital securities to connect qualified investors with reinsurance opportunities. The 2026 offerings were issued using Solana blockchain infrastructure.

The company has now completed tokenised reinsurance offerings across four consecutive treaty years.

Oxbridge said the transaction history could provide additional ways for investors to access insurance-linked investments and for reinsurance companies to access capital.

The company is also looking beyond reinsurance. It recently announced an expansion into AI infrastructure through AI GridWorks, its AI data centre development platform.

Oxbridge said it is exploring whether its tokenisation strategy could be extended to other real-world assets, including potential investment interests associated with AI infrastructure and data centres.

Jay Madhu, chair and CEO of Oxbridge and SurancePlus, said: “With five tokenised reinsurance offerings completed in 2026 and Oxbridge now expanding into AI infrastructure through AI GridWorks, we see an opportunity to build on that foundation and explore the application of tokenization to AI infrastructure and other real-world assets.

“Rendez-Vous de Septembre is an important gathering for the global reinsurance industry, and we look forward to discussing the continued growth of our reinsurance platform and the broader opportunities ahead.”
