Move it Cayman challenge builds momentum with app-driven push

A government-run fitness campaign is gaining momentum, with participants encouraged to sign up to a mobile app designed to keep people motivated and connected.

The Move it Cayman challenge, a 12-week initiative under the wider Step into Wellness campaign, officially began in late March.

It is supported by the TeamFit app, which is made available to those taking part once they register.

Participants use the app to track activity, join or create teams, and build momentum through friendly competition.

The platform syncs with wearable devices such as smartwatches, while also allowing manual entry for those without fitness tech.

Features include guided workouts, meditation and sleep support.

The Move It Cayman challenge is backed by the Ministry of Health, Environment and Sustainability, and encourages people to incorporate movement into their daily routines, regardless of fitness level.

In a press release on 9 April, health minister Katherine Ebanks-Wilks said early signs of engagement with the app have been encouraging

“I see family teams, work teams and even district teams. The app is a great way to connect with one another and to encourage participation.

“It will also give our ministry team some invaluable information on engagement with the challenge so that we can learn how to improve on it next year.

“I encourage everyone to sign up for the challenge and get involved.”

The digital push is complemented by a regularly updated activity calendar, offering a range of free and discounted events throughout the 12 weeks.

These include classes, webinars, consultations and other opportunities for movements

Within the ministry, the initiative is also being used to encourage internal engagement, with staff taking part in weekly group walks.

“We will be checking in with the team to see how they feel about this at the six week and 12-week mark, but we are hopeful that this will be very beneficial for both their physical and mental health,” Ebanks said.

The ministry says registration remains open and encourages people to sign up if they have not already done so.

Thanks to business sponsors, weekly prizes are being offered to help keep individuals engaged and motivated.
