Construction has begun on the final phase of the redevelopment project at George Dixon Community Park in East End, Grand Cayman.
On 26 March, the Ministry of Youth, Sports, Culture and Heritage broke ground to begin the work on a multi-sports court and a walking and riding track.
The community redevelopment project, which began in 2025, is designed to enhance recreational opportunities, encourage positive youth engagement and create a vibrant gathering space for residents and families.
Improvements include a full-size basketball court, dedicated pickleball courts, a five-a-side football court, a Bocce court, full canopy lighting, cooling fans, a walking and cycling track, and shaded cabanas and seating areas.
Isaac Rankine, minister for youth, sports, culture and heritage, said “The upgraded park will provide a safe and inclusive recreational space for residents while promoting stronger community connections and improving the overall quality of life.”
In a press release on 1 April, he thanked Edgewater Development Ltd for partnering with the government to bring the project to life.
“Their partnership with this ministry underscores the importance of collaboration in delivering meaningful community infrastructure,” he said.
