A new jewellery collection inspired by the Cayman Islands’ nature and heritage has been released for sale, with proceeds going to the National Trust.
The limited-edition 12-piece Blu Lagartos collection was designed by Celine Cousteau, descendant of the legendary Cousteau family of explorers and conservationists, and jewellery designer Susan Foster, whose Caymanian heritage stretches back to the early settlers of the 1700s.
The pieces pay homage to the islands’ endangered and protected flora and fauna, including the blue iguana, the wild banana orchid – Cayman’s national flower – and Sybil’s crown beard, a rare flowering plant found only on Cayman Brac.
Foster’s designs have previously appeared in Vogue, Elle, Harper’s Bazaar, Marie Claire and InStyle.
They have been worn by Hollywood stars including Kate Hudson, Renee Zellweger, Kerry Washington and Zoe Saldaña.
She temporarily came out of retirement to create this philanthropic collection, the National Trust said in a press release.
The designer drew inspiration from the islands’ landscapes and wildlife, spending time at the Blue Iguana Conservation Facility to craft pieces that celebrate Cayman’s biodiversity and heritage.
The Blu Lagartos collection will be featured at the National Trust Blue Tie Dinner, taking place on 31 January at 6:30pm at Grand Old House in Grand Cayman.
Guests will have an exclusive opportunity to view and purchase pieces from the collection, with all net proceeds going directly to the National Trust.
“Together, we continue to safeguard our national treasures,” the trust said, inviting the community to join a night of celebration, conservation and impact.
Tickets for the dinner, which include fine wine and cuisine from the award-winning Grand Old House, cost CI$200 and are available to buy here.
