Students in Cayman Brac can now design, test and race their own miniature F1 cars as STEM Racing made its debut on the island.
The Cayman Motoring Federation (CMF) brought the programme, which includes high-tech equipment, to Layman E Scott Sr High School last week.

The scheme, aimed at 11 to 19-year-olds, gives pupils the chance to try out the same engineering processes used by real motorsport teams around the world.
Often run as an after-school STEM club, it has three class levels – Entry Class, Development Class and Professional Class.
Depending on the level the students are in, participants have the chance to enter competitions, which range from in-school to international.
It’s hoped the programme will spark future career pathways in engineering, design, technology and motorsport
“This is an incredibly important moment for Cayman Brac,” Jane Scaletta, president of the CMF, said in a press release.
“Providing access to engineering tools of this calibre means our students are no longer limited by geography.
“They now have the same opportunities to innovate, create, and compete as any student worldwide.”
Kevin Roberts, acting principal at Layman E Scott Sr High School, added: “We’re thrilled to see this partnership with the Cayman Motor Federation come to life.
“It’s a powerful step toward enriching our students’ learning through hands-on STEM experiences.
“These new resources will help bridge classroom learning with real-world applications, especially in automotive technology and the applied sciences.”

Five Cayman Islands high schools are now participating in the STEM Racing programme: Layman E Scott Sr High School, John Gray High School, Cayman International School, Cayman Prep and High School and Grace Christian Academy.
CMF said the expansion underscores its commitment to fostering youth development, creating new educational opportunities and building future motorsport talent from the ground up.
All five schools are preparing to represent the Cayman Islands at the STEM Racing USA Regionals, taking place on 4 and 5 December.
The Cayman Islands will host its own STEM Racing Awards Ceremony on 15 December, celebrating student achievements, innovation and teamwork.
The Cayman Islands National STEM Racing Finals, meanwhile, are scheduled for 25 April 2026 in Grand Cayman, when students will compete for national titles and the chance to advance even further in this global programme.
The scheme is sponsored by Cayman Customs Automotive, Caribbean Utilities Company, the Ministry of Education and Cayman Airways.
