Fully funded U.S. tech degrees for young Caymanians

Young Caymanians are discovering new opportunities through a unique partnership between the University College of the Cayman Islands and the New England Institute of Technology.

Highlighted by a recent campus visit from Institute’s provost, Henry Young, the initiative promises fully funded US-based technology degrees, empowering local students to gain practical, career-focused education without financial barriers.

During his visit to UCCI, Young spoke directly to dual-enrolment students, sharing the transformative potential of the institute’s hands-on educational model. He emphasised the comprehensive support offered to Caymanian students, including financial aid that covers tuition, housing and essential living expenses, thanks to Cayman Islands Government scholarships supplemented by the institutes generous annual top-up of up to US$10,000.

Marisa Wishart, a young Caymanian currently studying cybersecurity at the institute, exemplifies the programme’s impact.

“Technology is evolving rapidly and I want to stay ahead of the curve,” she said. “Cybersecurity offers great job opportunities during and after my studies. There aren’t many people in this field in the Cayman Islands, so it’s an amazing chance to grow and contribute to my country’s future.”

While adjusting to life abroad — especially New England winters — initially posed challenges, Wishart stressed that the institute’s supportive, close-knit community made the transition manageable and rewarding.

“This is more than just a study abroad programme; it’s a life-transforming experience,” said  Robert W. Robertson, president and CEO of UCCI. “We created this partnership to ensure our students can pursue careers in technology without facing prohibitive costs. Eighteen months in, it’s inspiring to see students like Marisa thriving.”

The partnership between UCCI and the New England Institute of Technology, now 18 months old, offers seamless transitions from UCCI certificate programmes into the institute’s specialised bachelor’s and master’s degrees in fields such as cybersecurity, network engineering and construction management. The institute provides robust personal support services to address the social and emotional needs of students studying abroad.

“We’ve seen remarkable success from our Caymanian students,” noted Young. “The New England Institute of Technology ensures each student receives academic guidance, career services and personal support to excel. We’re eager to welcome even more Caymanian students in future semesters.”

UCCI is currently responding to growing interest from local students keen to begin their educational journey with the New England Institute of Technology. For more information, prospective students are encouraged to visit www.neit.edu/international.
