Forum to explore Cayman’s role in data financing

A virtual forum next week will examine how the Cayman Islands and other offshore jurisdictions could play a growing role in financing the global data centre boom.

The Marshall & Stevens data centre forum takes place on 10 September at 1pm, bringing together financial leaders, developers and infrastructure experts to explore capital flows in the sector.

The valuation services company is hosting the two-part virtual event, with the second session scheduled for 17 September focusing on construction and infrastructure challenges.

With US data centre revenues projected to exceed US$137 billion next year, banks, private equity firms and institutional investors are scaling up their commitments to the industry.

Cayman Islands financial services expect Winston Connolly, who is a panellist in part of the forum, said Cayman structures could make financing these deals more attractive.

“My participation is intended to show why Cayman structures make financing these deals better,” Connolly said.

“And Cayman being family office friendly, tends to be a jurisdiction of choice from which better financing options can occur, especially with cross-border financing.”

The forum will focus on how power requirements drive site selection and deal structures, with reliable and sustainable energy remaining crucial for new data centres.

Organisers say family offices, offshore funds and Cayman-based structures are showing increased interest in the sector, potentially reshaping competition and opening new avenues for large-scale infrastructure financing.

However, the extent to which offshore jurisdictions have become “pivotal financial hubs” for data centre growth remains to be established, with the forum positioned as exploring future opportunities rather than current market dominance.

The event will examine how real estate, power infrastructure and offshore capital are converging, creating new opportunities and risks for global investors.

Panel discussions will cover larger deal sizes, tax incentives and evolving financing structures as traditional banks and institutions face competition from non-traditional investors.

Registration for the free online event is available at the Marshall & Stevens website, with participants able to join via Zoom. (https://hubs.la/Q03BdBcm0)
