The Cayman Islands Institute of Professional Accountants (CIIPA) is hosting a two-day course next month focused on recent developments in public sector accounting standards.
The ‘2026 IPSAS and IFRS updates for the public sector’ course will take place on 17 and 18 September at the Grand Cayman Marriott Resort, with training running from 9am to 5pm daily.
The course will provide an update on key developments in International Public Sector Accounting Standards (IPSAS) and International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS), including new and revised standards, emerging issues and areas where the two sets of standards converge or differ.
On its website, the CIIPA said the training will focus on the practical application of updated accounting requirements, using real-world examples and scenarios to demonstrate their impact on financial reporting, recognition, measurement and disclosure.
Participants will also examine the implications of changes for financial statements and disclosures and how the updated guidance can be applied to public sector reporting and compliance.
The course is aimed primarily at chief financial officers and financial reporting officers working in the public sector, including civil servants and those employed by statutory authorities and government companies. Public sector auditors can also attend.
The session will be led by Manj Kalar, founder of Kalar Consulting and an independent public sector finance professional with more than 26 years of experience.
Kalar is a fellow of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants and a member of the Chartered Institute of Public Finance and Accountancy.
Her experience includes working on accrual accounting implementation projects internationally, as well as 17 years working in UK central government departments.
She also led the local government sub-consolidation of the UK Whole of Government Accounts.
The course carries 14 hours of continuing professional development and costs CI$275. No prerequisites or advance preparation are required.
The event is being delivered as a live group training session, with registration opening at 8:15am each day.
