The Cayman Islands Financial Services Institute (FSI) has been recognised as an Accredited Provider by the Continuing Professional Development Standards Office (CPDSO), following a formal assessment of its training programmes. Students taking the courses may now receive CPD certificates for accredited learning activities covering anti-money laundering, financial crime risk management, corporate governance and Cayman’s regulatory framework.
The FSI can also now display the CPD Standards Office’s official Accredited Provider badge.
FSI Director Paul Byles recognises the value in this accreditation as an important step in the development of the institute as a provider of professional education. “Our focus has always been on providing practical, Cayman-specific training that helps professionals understand and apply the regulatory requirements relevant to their roles,” he said.
That local focus runs through the Institute’s online offering. Courses cover Cayman Islands Monetary Authority rules and statements of guidance, as well as the responsibilities attached to different regulated roles within financial services businesses.
The online format is intended to give working professionals some flexibility, allowing them to undertake training without having to step away from their usual responsibilities for extended periods. At the same time, the courses are designed around the practical application of Cayman’s regulatory requirements rather than simply presenting the rules in isolation.
The CPD accreditation also gives the Institute a place in the CPDSO’s CPD Directory, with the organisation providing ongoing support to accredited providers. Furthermore, FSI is registered with the Cayman Islands Education Council as a Post-Compulsory Educational Institution and offers diploma programmes, seminars and other training alongside its online courses.
The latest accreditation serves as an extension of the Institute’s existing work. With professional development becoming an increasingly important part of working in a heavily regulated industry, the FSI intends to continue adding accredited online courses as a leader within the space.
FSI Director Paul Byles believes the accreditation “provides independent recognition of the quality and structure of our professional development courses”. For Cayman’s financial services professionals, this means increased confidence in keeping up with regulatory changes while also having a recognised record of the training they have completed.
